What is Traditional Animation, How to order this service?

We’ve published over 35 animated videos (in traditional mode) when I’m writing this post for you. in this post we’ll talk about any aspects of traditional animation based on our experience. if you want to know anything about this kind of animation so let’s get started!

What is Traditional animation? (Explained simply)

Traditional, hand-drawn, frame-by-frame, and cell-animation are all equal if we want to describe them simply!
When in the 19th century Walt Disney published his first animations there weren’t any digital devices like digital tablets, iPad, etc. they had to draw every picture like drawing on paper and take a picture for every frame! (you know that each second usually contains 24 frames) that means for each second they had to draw 24 paintings that related to each other to make a concept.

They had a special desk which had some pins to fix papers on it. some animations like the first generation of Tom & Jerry, Pink Panther, Lucky Luke, etc. are produced based on traditional animation!

But there is an important question! is this kind of animation popular anymore?!

The answer is YES! now we can find many animations which publish every day that is made with the “traditional” style of animation.

The main reason which hold this type of animation on top of the list is its pure style.

If I want to describe it simply, with all over technology coming to life, these animations are still attractive! but there is a difference!

The first generation of traditional animators just used papers and drawing/painting tools to animate a scene (that is kind of unfriendly to the Ecosystem now!). but now traditional animators use digital tools like digital tablets, iPad, etc to animate, and with some unique programs, lots of new and fresh features have been found in this subject!

Just have at some advertising animations in next heading.

Budget for Traditional animation

The budget for this kind of animation is widely variable and totally depends on all elements of your project! if anybody estimates the budget of frame by frame animations without checking all aspects of your unique production, be sure that he is lying!

To estimate your project budget, there is no way to determine that except, by getting a consultant about that with an agency or professional animation video maker.

There are lots of elements that can have an effect on the final budget like:

  • Quality of your project
  • Deadlines
  • Number of backgrounds
  • Number of characters
  • character design OR pre-made characters
  • Duration of your project
  • Style of your project
  • Need a voice-over or not?
  • Need unique music or a pre-made one
  • etc.

Where we can use Traditional animation?

As we talked briefly, there are 3 types of traditional animations:

  1. Full animated video
  2. Limited animation
  3. Rotoscopy animations

Full animations are full animations! that’s it! These kinds of animations (like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Robin Hood) are made for their art and income from the box office.

The limited animation films are where almost any kind of video comes in. advertising videos like 2 examples above, logo animations line the example below and all short animations (by artistic or advertising goal) belong to this classification.

Because of its pure art, it is usually more satisfying by the result and absolutely more expensivethan other types.

Who can make Traditional animations?

1- Your colleagues or friends worked with a group of the traditional animation team and they introduce to you (call number, email, etc)

2- Freelance websites. you can post your project on these sites like Freelancer.comFiverrToptalupwork, etc. I’ve worked on these sites for years and I can just say that if you want good quality with paying a fair amount of money DON’T choose them to find someone!

Traditional animation (frame-by-frame animation) is a kind of professional video and one person can’t handle it nicely. as I told you in the production process above, it needs a couple of artists to work on your project for days. so don’t waste your time and budget hiring from these sites (specially freelancer.com).

3- (Recommended) Animation studios like all you can find on the web. All the studios have a plan to make a project for you like us. at first, we talk about the production process with our clients and check everything. then if both sides are satisfied, we’ll start the project to deliver it in the most professional way!

Conclution

Traditional animation is a kind of video that usually costs about 800 to 1800 $ per minute because its production needs a couple of artists. You should order this kind of animation from a group/team with experience in this field.

If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to ask in the comments or by forms on the consultant page.
